What is SSL?
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is the technology used to secure data transmission on the web. The data sent and received between a web server and a client web browser is encrypted with the SSL certificate which also provides identification and validation for the website domain name and sometimes the organisation itself.
Why do I need SSL?
By purchasing an SSL certificate your website gains the ability to protect sensitive information sent to or from your web server. This information can be anything from user names and passwords to credit card information. Credit card companies require that data is secure and this can be provided by an SSL certificate.
